Art Philosophy |
Rachael paints from life, which enables her to sense three-dimensional objects through light, shape, and color, and to capture what she sees in paint. She currently paints and draws her random belongings, including an oversized stuffed shar-pei dog and old beany baby toys. Rachael also paints self-portraits.

Rachael often loses track of time when painting and becomes completely absorbed in the process of mixing colors and moving paint around a canvas. She uses colors reacting against each other in abstract shapes within a form. She is fascinated by the interplay of light and shadow on the human form, in particular, on the face. Scale is another element with which she experiments. In exploring scale, she paints large portraits and small landscapes.
